Hello jaunters! I am adding weight. You and I know this isn’t my real body.😏
It was a busy day, however, two things stood out.
I got to know my HIV status! I won’t say I was scared of doing it after all I am not doing anything that puts me at even a 0.01risk. But somehow when the technician had taken my sample and said “I don’t need to counsel you, you already know the drill” my heart skipped a beat.
Suddenly I thought of all the times aunty Esther my hair stylist pricked me with a needle while sewing my weave on.
The technician decided to make small talk with me while my sample spun.
Technician: “What will you do if you are positive”
Me: “I know I won’t be positive”
Technician: “But you know about healthy carriers, yes?”
Me: (smiling) “Definitely”
My subconscious: (pacing) God forbid! It is not my portion! I rebuke! I cast and bind! Tufiakwa! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?
Anyways, it came out negative!😎
Let me know if you know your HIV status and how you felt when you checked it

The second thing that stood out was when a girl of 18 came to do a pregnancy test (although I had a gut feeling she was below 18) she was positive and the technician adviced her to keep the pregnancy. She agreed but we soon saw her talking to a nurse. She was asking about having an abortion.
The technician who is also pregnant, called her and started counselling her and she said her dad was definitely going to kill her. when we asked what business she had having unprotected sex, she went mute. Abortion is not only illegal in nigeria but it is mostly performed by quacks for quick money and often results in life threatening complications.
What do you think about abortion, Is it right or wrong?
I got to teach them how to do PCV. Talk about the difference between a scientist and technician. They had all the materials for PCV but settled for Hb. Needless to say when my dad saw the first PCV result he wanted only PCV and no more Hb.😎 They’ve been asking for a new microscope amongst other things and I got my dad to agree to get them. Talk about the Jesus of the lab. They pass through me to get to the father😂😂.
I left work early and went with my parents to ikom (a city in crossriver. It is a boat ride away from cameroon) for doctors and spouses meeting and when we dropped them at the venue, I visited the infamous Mr Nice for ice cream and pie with my uncle who kept calling “moi-moi” “mai-mai” There is a difference!
The micro heamatocrit centrifuge stopped working and we had to go back to using Hb. We still made a lot of money😛. I had a nice day untill I got the news that my induction has been postponed for the 10,006th time. Which is solely as a result of one man’s incompetence!
Very uneventful. I slayed to work but forgot to take pictures and also pricked a less than 1 year old baby. I legit hate injecting babies. They are so fragile. The baby’s mum kept saying “don’t mind this aunty. She likes chuking people” and my subconscious screamed “traitor! You held her to be chukued. Let’s not point fingers” 😏.

In conclusion, I saw all the possibilities of studying medical laboratory science and fell in love with it all over again. I added something else to my list of ways to become wealthy- I’m starting a private laboratory as soon as I can!
I’m enjoying work even if I am not getting paid. It is a family business.😃
