I’m a bit of a spendthrift. I buy stuff I don’t even need and later ask myself what made me buy them.
Sometime last year, I started saving and wasn’t able to keep up. I broke the box in January this year and got #10,800…it was free money! If only I had been more disciplined๐ข๐ข๐ข
This year I decided to open savings accounts with different banks and save, but sadly, with the ATM card and mobile transfer options I have finished all the money. Don’t ask me “how” I really don’t know too.
It‘s notย totally my fault.ย Banks these days don’tย ask first before making an ATM card,ย they have a hand in this!
In preparation for my birthday, I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching and made a resolution to give myself a birthday gift next year. I’ll be putting in the first naira notes on my birthday this year (Thursday-30th Nov, 2017) and not taking out any money till my birthday next year (Friday- 30th Nov,2018).ย
I have a target amount in mind and can only imagine the temptations that await me, but I have to do this….I’m feeling really enthusiastic about this.๐I hope I’ll still be feeling this way half way through it๐ญ
This is my little way of learning self discipline.
I’ll drop updates about my saving struggles from time to time.

I know how you feel. Iโve been working for almost 10 years and yet the taxes I pay are so much bigger than the money I have in my bank account.๐ I tell myself why bother working if I canโt enjoy my life, but the truth is most of the things I buy donโt really make me happy. If something really makes you happy then go for it, but donโt forget the importance of saving money.
Well said.
Saving money is really important.
Thanks for reading๐
Spender of money

So relatable โบ๏ธ

Good luck with that one !
Thankyou
I agree with you. Self discipline is commendable
๐
Omg thatโs a heavy resolution ๐๐ฑ I donโt want to be in your shoes. I canโt even, baby girl here is unashamedly undisciplined. We canโt all be responsible, Someone has to be reckless ๐
Hahahahahaha๐.
“Unashamedly Undisciplined”
First of all, I would like to wish you an early HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope you get to enjoy your special day.
Second of, I laughed when I read how banks have a hand in your spending by giving you an ATM card so easily. So funny. So true.
Thirdly, that is a very high goal. To go from a big spender to not touching your saving for a year… I wish you strength, persistence and … luck. Just yesterday, I read that it takes 21 days to establish a pattern. So if you don’t spend for the first 3 weeks you should be well on your way. You can do it!
Thank you๐
Yes it is. I hope I can live up to expectation and not disappoint myself.
I really appreciate your encouragement๐

Thanks for reading ๐.
I’ll do that now.
You’re welcome.
I put my money into a savings plan that requires a 30 day written notice to make a withdrawal. It kind of makes it difficult and never spur of the moment to take money out. You really have to think about it!!
I’ll prolly have a written notice submitted every month!
The thought of taking out everything and starting afresh will still be there…๐ณ
I don’t buy always or at the spur of the moment. I plan, I even make a list, but then I always over buy cus I like too many things.๐ฆ
There’s that part of me that says….” treat yourself! You don’t buy often” and I’ve realised that the stuff I buy at once is the same as buying stuff every other day.
I guess if the piggy bank works out, I’d have acquired enough discipline to adopt your savings plan
I really appreciate your feedback๐
Good luck and happy birthday!!!!
Thankyou! ๐
No wonder the bible admonishes us to make sure of the most important things (philipians 1:10)
i wish all birthdays were tailored to a reflective spirit like yours! People like us would become partakers……
Be saving, but not at the cost of all liberality. Have the soul of a queen and the hand of a wise economist……keep growing ma’m
Thankyou
Happy Birthday to my beloved
daughter.
Thanks mum๐๐๐๐๐

Awww you’re my dad’s birthday mate.. Nov 30th.
I’m a recovering spendthrift too and have become more diligent with my money in recent years. I love keeping a piggybank (even though mine is usually just a wooden box), I always look forward to the amount I would gather. I haven’t started one this year cos I’m started one online piggybank.Ng. you should check them out. Its totally cool
Your dad is definitely awesome!
I’ve heard about the piggyback.ng but haven’t gotten around to checking it out.
I’ll try to.
